Dark Light

Stratford’s Bed and Breakfast industry dates from 1953, and the inception of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.  Local residents literally opened their homes to house the unexpected influx of visitors eager to attend the performances.  Since then, for many visitors, the “Stratford Experience” is synonymous with two things: world class theatre, and a stay at their favourite Bed and Breakfast.

The Stratford and Area Bed and Breakfasts and Accommodations association (SABBA) is the pre-eminent representative of independent accommodators in Stratford and surrounding area. The Association provides a supportive forum for its members and represents its members’ interests to tourism, hospitality, business, governmental and regulatory agencies.  SABBA hosts voluntarily adhere to quality standards that exceed local licensing requirements, and member homes are regularly inspected to ensure these standards are maintained.

Every Bed and Breakfast and Country Inn in our association offers a truly unique experience full of warmth, charm and ambiance. Some properties offer accommodations in restored old homes with period furnishings, and some will offer you a more modern ambiance. The owners live on the premises and will graciously welcome you into their home. Breakfast is always included and is usually a delicious home-cooked meal that, once again, will be very different from one place to another.

Staying at a Bed and Breakfast is the perfect option when you need a calm and relaxing escape from the busyness of everyday life. Personalized attention, friendly hosts, unique settings and delicious food, are only a few of the many reasons to stay in a Bed and Breakfast while enjoying your stay in Stratford.

Imagine your day : Begin with a delicious home cooked breakfast, with locally sourced meats and produce, and home baking and preserves. Then, perhaps rejuvenate with a relaxing spa treatment, or follow one of Stratford’s famous Trails: the Chocolate Trail, perfect for chocaholics, the Bacon and Ale Trail, for the bacon and brewery fans in your life, or the Christmas Trail to fulfill all your Christmas gift needs.  On the way, explore local galleries, and wonderful shops and boutiques. Later in the day, enjoy a superb meal at one of our local restaurants, and finally, come home to a warm welcome and comfy bed, and let all your cares slip away.

A Bed and Breakfast can be the perfect place for a celebration, as well! Beautiful gardens, verandas, pergolas and arbours provide wonderful venues to celebrate a unique event such as a birthday, anniversary, shower, reunification, elopement or wedding. Many offer intimate spaces each with a unique flair, and provide wedding planning services such as onsite clergy.

Some Bed and Breakfasts provide packages to cater to these occasions, so all the work is done for you and you are there just to enjoy the day.

Many Bed and Breakfasts offer Gift Certificates for those hard-to-buy-for friends and family members.  You can often choose a Certificate for you to print yourself, or the establishment can send a hard copy formal certificate in the denomination of your choice.

During the winter season of 2021 -22 there are 8 of SABBA’s 17 members that have remained open. It is expected that many more will be rejoining the Association and reopening when the Covid-19 situation hopefully improves in the Spring. For those accommodators who are not in our SABBA fold, we welcome your applications to our professional fraternity.

Use our SABBA website (bbstratford.ca) to explore the many options available to you when planning your next trip to Stratford.
