Off the Wall Fall 2024: Intro to Footwear for Theatre & Film (Multi-Day)

Stratford Festival Senior Craftsperson, Connie Puetz will teach the techniques used to adapt and prepare footwear for the stage and film work in this new 4 day, intensive workshop.
In this introductory footwear workshop, you will learn how to take modern footwear and make it appropriate for many theatrical applications, including period pieces. This workshop will prepare you to work on footwear for stage, cosplay, or film.
During this four-day course, students will learn:
- basic terminology of footwear and shoes of different periods of footwear through the ages
- how to change the appearance of footwear, from basic paint techniques to more complicated processes, such as covering or altering the upper
- structural differences between dance shoes and street shoes
- fitting problems and how to solve them
- health and safety and proper use of chemicals for shoe work
- basic repair for common issues from stage wear
Note: Tuition fee includes a basic leather paint kit.
Note: Students may be required to use machinery such as industrial sewing machines and power tools. Physical dexterity is required.
Classes run Saturdays and Sundays, 9am-5pm.
