Theatrical Carpentry – Session 1

Session 1 – July 17 – 21 (Five day course)

ARTIST INSTRUCTOR: Mark Flanagan

Strong theatrical carpentry skills are essential to creating sets and props that capture the theatre goer’s imagination.

Practice a variety of techniques used by scenic carpenters behind the scenes, during the introductory, one-week course:

  • Interpret set designs and develop working drawings from them;

  • Explore and practice basic carpentry skills: measuring, cutting, shaping, fitting and fastening;

  • Train in the safe and effective use of power tools and equipment;

  • Experiment with a variety of construction materials and methods;

  • Build basic set pieces such as flats, stage decking, windows, doors and sculptural elements.
