Summer Songwriter Series – Third Round

The Summer Songwriter Series wraps up its third and final round on Friday, August 28th at 8PM, featuring Melissa Dutch, Jennifer Foster, and Nicole Christian.

Melissa Dutch is Hamilton’s soul/pop/rock queen, emerging onto the Canadian music scene in a wave of lyrical depth and vocal power. Her music speaks to the outcast and embraces the beautifully unconventional, an expression of truth and healing delivered by a skillful storyteller with a powerful voice. Her work has drawn comparisons to Sarah McLachlan, Adele, Alanis Morissette, and Florence Welch.

Jennifer Foster is one of those rare artists who feels instantly familiar yet entirely her own, a Canadian singer-songwriter whose musical storytelling takes you places you don’t expect, and turns any room she’s playing into something closer to a living room. Her new album, Powerline, is an acoustic-driven collection of warm sunlit folk-pop with a ’70s sensibility. Part love letter, part map, many of the songs were inspired by the New Brunswick farm where she grew up: colourful snapshots of the landscape and her inner world, reflections on relationship, loss, and change. Powerline marks Foster’s fourth release. Her previous album earned a JUNO nomination for Producer of the Year (Michael Phillip Wojewoda), and she’s collaborated widely across the Canadian music community with artists including Ron Sexmith, Carole Pope, Lori Cullen, and Moe Berg and The Pursuit of Happiness. You might also recognize her from five seasons singing as a “Jazzagal” on Schitt’s Creek. Whether she’s playing with her five-piece band or holding a room solo, it’s her warmth and authenticity that draw audiences in.

Nicole Christian brings a little roots, a little country, and plenty of bottle-neck blues. A multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and educator, she brings her own flavour to every stage she plays. Whether on flute, piano, or resophonic guitar, her songs carry energy and grit, sometimes even the sad ones will have your toes tapping. Nicole has shared her music across Ontario, her home state of New York, and as far as Memphis and Mexico.

This is a pay what you can event, with $15 suggested. Seat Reservations Encouraged: https://www.simpletix.com/e/summer-songwriter-series-third-round-tickets-285587
