Puck’s Plenty Foraging: The Oft Overlooked Fungi of Autumn
There they are, radiant in their whiteness, bold in their shapes. Posturing themselves along sections of living hardwoods. Beautiful monuments of Mother Nature. Whew! Going overboard here. But truly, these mushrooms are fantastic edibles. When found young and fresh, they are right up there with the best of “choice” edibles. The Hypsizygus Tussulatis lives in the hollows of tree trunks, families of them together. While the Pleurotus Dryinus projects itself from creases in the bark. These mushrooms have a delicious sweetness about them.
We’ll be searching for these along with Velvet Foot and Blewit Mushrooms. Not to mention Wild Watercress that gushes from an underground spring.
