The season closes with two works showcasing the talents of SSO performers, Laurel Swinden and Jonathan Rowsell, plus guest organ soloist Owen Spicer performing Saint-Saens’ pinnacle work, his “Organ Symphony”.  Both the Coulthard and Koestier are beautiful works that feature the soloists with the SSO strings.

Saint-Saens’ symphony is scored for an expanded orchestra plus organ and piano. It was his final symphonic composition since, as he wrote, “What I have here accomplished, I will never achieve again.”
