Off the Wall Summer 2024: Theatrical Carpentry 1 (5 days)

Instructor: Mark Flanagan | Dates: July 8-12, 2024 (9am-5pm)

Strong theatrical carpentry skills are essential to creating sets and props that capture the theatregoer’s imagination.

Practice a variety of techniques used by scenic carpenters behind the scenes during the introductory, one-week course:

  • Interpret set designs and develop working drawings from them;
  • Explore and practice basic carpentry skills: measuring, cutting, shaping, fitting and fastening;
  • Train in the safe and effective use of power tools and equipment;
  • Experiment with a variety of construction materials and methods;
  • Build basic set pieces such as flats, stage decking, windows, doors and sculptural elements.

Registration fee includes materials.

Classes run Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.
