Dark Light

INNERchamber: In the Steps of O’Carolan

Turlough O’Carolan, considered by many to be Ireland’s National Composer, travelled across Ireland in the early eighteenth century composing songs and harp pieces. With the help of a guide on account of his blindness, he performed throughout the country at special occasions and often took up residence at the houses of wealthy patrons in return for writing songs in their honour.

Dan Stacey has had a lifelong fascination for the work of O’Carolan, and he joins the INNERchamber Ensemble and narrator Cedric Smith to tell the story of this remarkable composer, including his artistic influences and enduring impact on folk music.
