A QUIET TIME ON BUSY STREET is about what happens to that idea.

Background: Alan Williams was born in Manchester, England. His theatre training with the Hull Truck Theatre. He is also a playwright, having written and performed his Cockroach Trilogy at the Bush Theatre in London.  It became an award-winning sensation at the 1981 International Theatre Festival in Toronto, after which he became playwright in residence at the Tarragon Theatre. He continued working with other Toronto indie theatres until moving to Manitoba to teach at the University of Winnipeg. In 1996 he starred in Michael McNamara’s film adaptation of the trilogy, The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati. It premiered at TIFF, earning him a Genie nomination for Best Actor.  He moved back to England that year where he continued acting in theatre (War Horse, Jerusalem) and television (The Crown, Chernobyl, Coronation Street etc.). In 2024 he was invited to bring his new autobiographical trilogy to VideoCabaret by interim Artistic Director Layne Coleman
