Hwy 6 to Embro/401: Replacement of large culvert Aug-Nov

Expect delays but road will not be closed. Hwy 7 detour is suggested as above, if there is an overlap.

Hwy 8 between Stratford and Shakespeare: In progress

Beginning in early June, stretches of this road between the west end of Shakespeare and the east end of Stratford will be reduced on weekdays to a single lane, with flag people controlling traffic in both directions. Delays may be lengthy, so please allow additional time for your trip. (Both lanes are expected to be open on evenings and weekends.)

Creating Memorable Characters Workshop

What makes a character leap off the page and into a reader’s imagination? In this interactive workshop, novelist Becky Blake will discuss methods for creating believable and distinctive characters that really connect with readers.
What will the session cover?

  • Elements of building a strong character

  • Using “golden details” to make a character feel real

  • ​Finding a character’s unique voice

  • Technical tips that help to cement characters in a reader's mind

  • Writing exercise

  • Group discussion

Who is this workshop for? - This workshop is appropriate for fiction or creative nonfiction writers.

About Becky Blake - Becky Blake is a two-time winner of the CBC Literary Prize (for non-fiction in 2017 and short fiction in 2013). Her fiction and essays have appeared in publications across Canada. She holds an MFA from the University of Guelph, and teaches creative writing at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Education. Becky currently lives in Toronto where she’s working on a second novel and a memoir-in-essays.

About the Book - Proof I Was Here is a novel that tells the coming-of-age story of a young artistic thief from Toronto who attempts to reboot her life on the streets of Barcelona after an unexpected breakup.
