Stratford has raised many visual artists to national and international acclaim
We live in an inspirational setting. That’s why so many artists are drawn to our town and its surroundings. Stratford has seen many of its visual artists rise to national and international acclaim. William Ronald, founder of the influential Painters Eleven, was born in Stratford. Tony Urquhart, one of Canada's leading contemporary artists, has called Stratford home with his wife Jane Urquhart, author of The Stonecarvers. And those are just a few names—other contemporary artists making their home in Stratford include:
- Gerard Brender à Brandis - wood engraver, bookwright
- Glenn Elliott - sculptor, mixed media
- Janet Hill - oils
- Kim McCarthy - encaustic paintings
- Irene Miller - photographer
- Maxine Noel - painter, printmaker
- Ken Nutt - illustrator, prints, drawings
- Edward Payne - watercolours
- John Pennoyer - designer, drawings
- David Sharpe - landscape painter
- Bonnie Steinman - prints and drawings
- Leslie Watts - painter
- Jack Winn - structural impressionism
As well as benefiting from the energy brought by the presence of these artists, our town also enjoys the benefits of the following:
