The Gentle Rain Natural Health Food Store provides a wide and ever growing selection of healthy foods, supplements, body and baby care and all your household needs. Our purchasers focus on locating fair trade, non-gmo, organic and/or local products. Our grocery department includes organic dairy (cow, goat, and sheep milk, cheese & yogurt), fresh produce, organic meat, bulk, and dry goods. We have weekly deliveries of fresh baked bread, including wheat and gluten free options as well as a freezer dedicated to bread (wheat & gluten free). One section of our store is devoted entirely to gluten free groceries, from crackers, pasta and cookies to do it yourself baking kits. There is a wide selection of organic and conventional dried herbs and spices, fair trade coffee and tea. We also have a variety of rawfood to to choose from (crackers, wraps, hummus, 'budda', bars and much more).

Our supplement department has a vast selection of options to choose from, providing customers with superfoods, joint care, heart health, cold & flu remedies, eye health, multi-vitamins, etc. We have a comprehensive body care selection with clean ingredients- to keep you healthy outside as well as in from top to toe. Our knowledgeable staff is very choosy about the products we put on our shelves. Our customers can feel safe knowing they can trust everything we carry.

Each and every Thursday we offer a 10% seniors discount off regular priced supplements.

We are proud members of the Health First Network. This organization began 10 years ago amongst a small group of health food retailers determined not to let the big stores put us out of business. Today there are more than 115 stores across Canada and together we have more buying power and a stronger collective wisdom. Look for our exclusive brand of premium supplements named Health First. We also have wonderful sale flyers put out every month, with super savings and deals in all departments.

Eric and Marsha bought The Gentle Rain in 1979 from another couple when it was located on Brunswick St. As business grew they quickly ran out of space and changed location in 1989 to our present location on Rebecca Street. During this period, there have been 4 more renovations/expansions and in 2008 we installed a 10wk system of solar panels, which consists of 60 panels.

In July 2010, Eric passed away. He will always be remembered by customers and staff for all of his accomplishments with the store and in the community.

In July 2014, Marsha made the decision to retire, selling the store to Brendan Davidson. Brendan grew up in his mothers health food store in Guelph (Stone Store) and acquired Green Valley Health & Herbs in Elmira ON in 2005. He and his wife, Jen have 2 children (Charlie & Isla) and live in Guelph, Ontario.

Having been in the industry all of his life, Brendan has quite a few ideas for the Gentle Rain that will take a few years to implement. We look forward to all the changes that will come in the next few years."

Our store is run by our manager Michelle, who has been at the G.R. (as we fondly call ourselves) for over 16 years. She has the task of overseeing the staff, coordinating all orders and deliveries as well as being the accounts payable department. Sara is our Supplement room manager with extensive knowledge of our health and beauty section and our suppliers, she has been on board for over 15 years.
