Kim McCarthy is one of three Canadian visual artists selected to have her work published in the book, Encaustic Art in the Twenty-First Century by Anne Lee and E. Ashley Rooney (2016).

Kim's encaustic and mixed media paintings, limited edition archival prints and art cards can be viewed at her home studio by appointment. She is also represented by Davis Canadian Arts Gallery in Stratford.

"My creative passion and 30+ years of experience as an artist and arts educator are rooted in sharing the power of story and myth through art. I'm inspired by the natural world, ancientness and I love visual metaphors. Painting with the rich, ancient medium of encaustic with mixed media enables me to work in layers incorporating my original drawings, script, found materials, photo transfers, organics and other treasures. I love the opportunity to watch my audience experience my work firsthand. The complex layers offer the viewer an opportunity to explore the intracies and ideally I hope that they have moments of both discovery and make their own personal associations with the imagery. Bearing witness to those associations enriches my life and is a constant reminder of the universal power of art and the connections between the artist, the art and the viewer."

Kim has an art studio and gallery space in her home and visitors are welcome by appointment.

“Stratford itself is the type of walkable wholesome town Rodgers and Hammerstein might write a musical about.”
