Victorian Beard Growing Contest

A sure sign of growing enthusiasm for Sesquicentennial activities will be the many Victorian-style beards, mutton chops and mustaches sported by Stratford's men in the months leading up to July 1.

A beard-growing contest is a lighthearted event to raise awareness of Stratford 150: men can register at beard or on Facebook via the Stratford Tourism Alliance's page.

Categories for the contest are best beard, best mutton chops, and best mustache, all of which will be judged on Canada Day. There are many fine examples of Victorian beards online, and it is hoped that prominent local gentlemen will take part. Participants' progress will be charted on social media as well as at meet-ups in May and June.

This event is wheelchair accessible.

Cost: Free

Location: Stratford City Hall, Stratford, 1 Wellington Street, Stratford

“Stratford itself is the type of walkable wholesome town Rodgers and Hammerstein might write a musical about.”
