Stratford Tourism Alliance is seeking a Leading edge Executive Director

The City of Stratford is one of Canada’s leading tourism icons. Boasting a growing and diverse economy and home to the internationally recognized Stratford Festival, the region attracts over 1 million visitors each year. It is a leading leisure travel destination that attracts a great deal of media attention for its beautiful setting and strong culinary and cultural assets.

Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will lead a strategic organization that facilitates high-impact tourism marketing programs through a performance based approach. You will:
• Supervise, motivate, and lead staff to achieve STA’s goals through strategic leadership and motivating a strong team;

• Prepare yearly business and marketing plans to support the organization’s strategic direction and priorities;

• Be a self-starter who understands and is highly responsive to organizational, market and industry needs;

• Demonstrate skills in organizational management, financial management and political acuity and diplomacy;

• Monitor statistics and undertake regular competitive analyses of Stratford’s position in the larger tourism industry environment;

• Manage the operational and financial aspects of the Corporation and provide regular reporting in keeping with the policies set by the Board of Directors;

• Facilitate industry development and networking;

• Develop policies, program and service initiatives, expenditure/revenue strategies, and related initiatives to achieve strategic objectives of the STA;

• Establish contracts for external services, development of networks, preparation of grant applications and the undertaking of other activities in support of the organization’s mission, goals, and its business operations;

• Work collaboratively with municipal staff, City Corporations, Stratford Festival, Regional Tourism and community organizations to support partner initiatives to build strategic partnerships and stakeholder alliances;

• Act as the main contact for media relations – approving press releases, editorial calendar, planning and overseeing the media program of the STA;

• Undertakes other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economic Development, Marketing, or recognized equivalent;

• Progressive, strategic thinking, combined with a results-based approach;

• A minimum of 10 years industry experience including experience in senior leadership or management;

• Demonstrated financial and program management capacity;

• Excellent knowledge and understanding of tourism industry;

• Excellent communication and public relations skills;

• Ability to build relationships and consensus and partner effectively with multiple organizations and stakeholders;

• Demonstrated ability to execute and successfully implement strategic plans;

• Excellent conflict resolution skills and the ability to handle difficult situations;

• A strong ability to advance multiple projects concurrently; and

• An understanding of the municipal accountability and municipal process.

Annual Salary: $83,000 – $90,000 plus benefits

Heritage Tourism Coordinator

Wage: $11.40 per hour

Do you enjoy meeting new people?  Are you interested in leading heritage walks and sharing Stratford’s stories?  Stratford Tourism Alliance is looking for an outgoing leader interested in history to update and streamline existing heritage tours, guide regular walking tours and recruit and train community volunteers to lead tours.  With the important role of meeting visitors and engaging community members you will be sharing our past in an enthusiastic manner. You will also take photos and create social media posts reflecting our heritage stories.  We are looking for interested students to work 30 hours per week. 

Heritage Tourism Coordinator will:
- Actively promote Stratford and its history in a positive, enthusiastic fashion
- Ensure they are knowledgeable about the businesses and happenings in Stratford
- Research and share accurate information
- Recruit and train community volunteers to lead heritage walks
- Lead guided walking tours requiring walking and talking for extended periods outdoors
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of Stratford and area
- Fluent in Microsoft Office/Internet/Social Media
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to spelling and grammar
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people
- Show strong problem solving, organizational and leadership skills

Location: 47 Downie St. and 30 York St.
Term: May 30 - Labour day and must be student registered in post secondary education returning to school in September ages 16 - 30.

Community Animator/Social Media Assistant
Wage: $12.00 per hour

Do you enjoy talking to people? Are you outgoing and have an aptitude for communications and social media? This role will be an important public engagement position that will take our tourism information centre out on the streets and into the digital public. You will help people find events, stores and share their experiences on social media. The Social Media role will capture events, activities and people enjoying their visit to Stratford through social media. Your role will be to spread the word and get people talking about Stratford and our celebrations of Canada 150. 

The Community Animator/Social Media Assistant will strategically create content, will initiate conversations with guests on the streets, at attractions and at events. Collect organic and current information to be scheduled and shared on Stratford Tourism Alliance channels. Transportation takes place using a branded bicycle (seasonal).

The Community Animator/Social Media Assistant will:    
- Actively promote Stratford and area attractions, events and businesses with attention to Canada 150 celebrations
- Take quality photos, write and post current happenings on Facebook, Twitter and other social media channels
- Get out into local businesses to promote special events offerings
- Manage a flexible work schedule around events and happenings to ensure the best coverage possible
- Seek approval of your schedule prior to execution
- Initiate and engage people in conversation - requires extended periods outdoors and at events

The successful candidate will be:
- Extremely outgoing individual who is not afraid to speak with business owners and public;
- Self-motivated to organize your scheduled shifts around events and opportunities as discussed with the supervisor
- Flexible hours including ability to work evenings and weekends
- Ability to work 35 hours per week with varied schedule
- Strong knowledge of Stratford and Area
- Proficiency in Social Media activity and execution, photography and tools required to undertake mobile posting
- Familiar with using an ipad
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including attention to grammar and spelling
- Photographic experience an asset

Term:          May 25th through August 31st and must be ages 15 - 25 on the first day of employment (Summer Experience Program). Other terms apply.

Information Ambassadors

Do you enjoy working with people?  Are you interested in working in the tourism or customer service industry as part of a team?  Information Ambassadors are the front lines of the Stratford Tourism Alliance.  With the important role of greeting visitors, and responding to their requests for information in an outgoing and enthusiastic manner. Two locations serve visitors at the Boathouse on York Street and the Tourism office downtown.   We are looking for interested students to work 20-35 hours per week.  The hours will vary to serve the public seven days per week 10 am to 6 pm.

We offer the opportunity to grow your customer service skills and gain experience working in a high profile tourism market.

Information ambassadors will:
- Actively promote Stratford and area attractions, events and businesses                                    
- Ensure they are knowledgeable about the businesses and happenings in Stratford                      
- Maintain inventories and tidy welcome centre
- Collect and input statistical information
- Lead guided walking tours requiring walking and talking for extended periods outdoors
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of Stratford and area
- Fluent in Microsoft Office/Internet/Social Media

- Attention to spelling and grammar
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people
